This page describes version 0.1.0 of the app and command line tool, and this website. It is written to be checked, not to reassure.

The app and command line tool

• The only network request the app makes is an update check against storagesage.app, which compares your version to the latest and sends nothing about you or your files. You can turn it off in Settings. There is no analytics, crash reporting or accounts, and the command line tool makes no network requests.
• It reads your disk to measure sizes and match rules. To answer some questions it runs local tools: git (is this folder clean and pushed?), tmutil (is it in a Time Machine backup?), docker (what is unused?), and launchctl if you enable the scheduler. All are read-only checks except the actions you confirm.
• It refuses to delete anything it recognises as a secret: SSH keys, credentials, keychains and AI agent memory. Measuring sizes and finding duplicates read file data locally (to count bytes and compute a hash). Nothing that is read is stored or transmitted.

What it stores, and where

• ~/Library/Application Support/StorageSage/ holds your settings, your custom rules, the undo journal, and the optional backup vault.
• Nothing else is written outside actions you confirm. Delete that folder to remove all of it.

Permissions

Full Disk Access is optional. It lets StorageSage see protected folders such as Safari, Mail and Photos data. Without it the app still works and lists the folders it could not read.

This website

• No cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts.
• Your dark or light preference is saved in your browser's local storage on your device, and never sent anywhere.

Changes

If this changes, for example if an update check is added, this page will change first and the release notes will say so.
